How do I become a member of Stevens Point Country Club?(Back to top) Stevens Point Country Club is always interested in accepting new members and growing our Club. All we ask is that you familiarize yourself with what we are all about, by reading Club literature like this document, and/or by arranging a meeting with our Business Manager, Laurel Dobrinska. She will be happy to arrange a tour and to give you any information you need. She can be reached at 715-345-8900. Laurel’s e-mail address is laureld@stevenspointcountryclub.com. Once you know more about our Club and are ready to join, we ask you to fill out an application for membership, which is available at our main clubhouse. It asks you for pertinent information, and also requires the signature of two Club members in good standing who become your “sponsors.” If you are new to the area and don’t know two Club members, Tom or Laurel can assist you. The Club does run background checks on prospective members, just as a precaution. When you decide to join SPCC, we can often process your application one day and you can have a member account and privileges the next day!
What is the Stevens Point Country Club?(Back to top) The Stevens Point Country Club is a private golf and social club. It is comprised of people who either have a passion for golf, tennis, swimming, fine dining, socializing with fellow members, or all of the aforementioned! The membership is made up of dining members, social members and golf members. Golf members are considered “full” members and own stock certificates in the Club, making them part owners. Social members have access to all of the facilities of the club except the golf course (though they are allowed to play golf in certain Club tournaments). Dining members join in order to take advantage of the restaurant facilities and don’t have pool, tennis or golf privileges. SPCC was founded in 1925 and the first nine holes were built in 1926.
What is the golf course like?(Back to top) The outstanding 18-hole course we now enjoy was expanded and re-designed by the renowned architect Larry Packard in the mid-1960’s. It is a lush, parkland-style golf course that doglegs its way through mature stands of conifers and oaks. The course can be played from four different sets of tees, with total yardages ranging from 5400 to 6700 yards. The course has 42 bunkers on it, strategically placed in the driving areas and around the greens. The greens are large and undulating, and roll smooth and true. There are some interesting elevation changes and the course teems with wildlife. (Be sure you check out our pair of bald eagles in their nest) We also enjoy some great views of the adjacent Plover River.
What about the other facilities? What’s available?(Back to top) Our big and beautiful clubhouse was built in 1969 and has floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook our golf course and the ponds and willows in the lower portion of our property. We have a dining room which can seat over 200, and a spacious lobby/foyer area with a parquet floor that is great for dancing or for receptions. Our lounge is open and roomy and boasts a large circular bar. We think it is the best spot for a cocktail and a conversation in all of central Wisconsin. Our lower level has a good size meeting room with a fully-stocked bar and access to an outdoor terrace. This room, called the Tee Room, is perfect for gatherings under 100 people and is very intimate. On the main level, we also have a meeting room called the Whiting Room, which seats up to 30 comfortably, and can easily be set with a large boardroom table. We have a large swimming pool and a “kiddie” pool for the youngsters. The outdoor pool is heated and filtered and is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekend. There is a large deck area surrounding it where you can sun yourself and get away from it all. Right beside our pool is our Greenery Restaurant, which is open all summer. We serve casual food there like sandwiches, salads, cheese curds and French fries, snacks and all sorts of beverages. SPCC has two outdoor tennis courts that are generally wide open for your playing pleasure.
Our Chef, Pierre Houben, and his staff have a great reputation in the Stevens Point area for outstanding food served with elegance. Our lunch menu, available Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 until 1:30, features sandwiches, wraps, burgers, superb salads and homemade soup. Our dinner menu, served Tuesday night through Friday night, with occasional Saturday nights, as well, features outstanding seafood, steaks, pizza and pastas. Our chef also prepares dinner features each night that show off his ability to delight your taste buds. Our menu is very competitively priced with area restaurants, and we think you get exceptional service to make it a great experience.
What are my commitments as a member of SPCC?(Back to top) When you join SPCC, you are making an annual commitment. We bill you in a number of payments to collect your annual dues. Dues are very reasonable, and there are incentives for new members. When you become a member, you are agreeing to pay dues for the current year. At year end you are free to evaluate the experience—and we think you will want to stay! Dues rates are listed a little further along in this document. All members are responsible for Food and Beverage Minimums. Although you can elect to meet these commitments annually or bi-annually, most members meet the minimums quarterly. Because we are a 12-month-out-of-the-year country club, we need our members to be using and supporting the Club by patronizing the restaurant and lounge. The minimums are listed a little later on, and are easily met by simply stopping out and enjoying the Club for lunch, dinner or cocktails. Food and beverages all count towards meeting the minimum levels. There are very few other fees for members to pay. Golf members need to pay an annual locker room and driving range fee, which gives them anytime access to the locker rooms in the main clubhouse and to unlimited practice balls for the driving range when the range is open. Occasionally, the club may levy a special assessment to all members to meet exceptional needs. The Board of Directors only does this when absolutely necessary. All fees for golf are 70% of the normal fee charged to current members. In year one new members pay 70% of the current fee, their second year they pay 80%, the third 90% until year 4 of membership they pay 100% of current normal rates. |
